Wildcats Cruise Past New Hampshire National Teamers Fuel First Half Burst
Heather O'Reilly, Lindsay Tarpley, Kacey White, and Jen Redmond will all be heading to the combined United States U-21 and U-20 National Team camp this coming week but they all made sure they contributed to one more victory for the New Jersey Wildcats before they head to the Home Depot Center in Carson, CA.
Those four players were all in the starting lineup last night for the Wildcats, who will be sending seven players to the mega-camp in total, and all four made their mark combining for four goals and two assists in the first half as the Wildcats racked up an 8-0 victory over the New Hampshire Lady Phantoms in W-League action at Mercer County Community College.
O'Reilly and White notched a goal and an assist each while Tarpley and Redmond also scored as Redmond had the longest stint in the game at 54 minutes. Christine Latham was the scoring star for the Wildcats with two goals and two assists while Jenny Benson and Cara Hammond also scored. Karina LeBlanc played the first 66 minutes and Sarah Allen-Knight finished the game in goal but neither had to make a save as the Wildcats held a 36-0 advantage in shots. The shutout was the fourth straight to open the season for the Wildcats.
O'Reilly opened the scoring in the 20th minute and the goals came fast and furious as the Wildcats built a 5-0 lead in a 14-minute span. Latham set up O'Reilly for the first goal and White put Latham in behind for the second five minutes later. Latham laid a pass back for Redmond to crack into the upper right corner from 30 yards out in the 31st minute and O'Reilly set up White two minutes after that. One minute later, Tarpley capped the outburst on a long run into the box for the 5-0 lead.
The Lady Phantoms held the Wildcats off the board in the second half until the 75th minute when Benson scored unassisted. Latham headed in a 50-yard long ball from Bonnie Young two minutes later before Hammond headed in a cross from Kate Sands to close the scoring in the 81st minute.
The Wildcats return to Mercer County Community College on Sunday, May 29th when they host the Vermont Lady Voltage at 2:30 p.m.
