Wildcats Top Banshees Again
WINSLOW, NJ - Marinette Pichon racked up three goals and two assists as the New Jersey Wildcats rolled past the South Jersey Banshees 7-0 tonight at Winslow High School. The Wildcats topped the Banshees for the second time in five days after winning 9-0 last Sunday.
Kelly Smith contributed two assists before leaving the game in the 40th minute with a strained groin while Manya Makoski, Kim Francis, Bonnie Young, and Maura Gallagher also scored for the Wildcats, who improved to 6-0.
Amanda Brown and Becky Wachsberger split the shutout in goal for the Wildcats, who extended their club-record shutout streak to 457 minutes.
Pichon opened the scoring in the 23rd minute when she headed in a cross from Smith and Makoski added to the lead seven minutes later when she volleyed home another cross from Smith. Pichon made the lead 3-0 ten minutes before halftime when she poked in a through ball from Anne Makinen the deflected off the hands of Banshees keeper Megan Ramey.
Francis, who had a strong game for the Wildcats in the center of the midfield, connected off a cross from Pichon just three minutes into the second half. Pichon headed in a cross from Rochelle Willis in the 57th minute before poking a loose ball to Young, who knocked in her first goal of the season four minutes later.
Maura Gallagher closed out the scoring in the 73rd minute when she took a pass from Jamie Weist and snuck a deflected shot just inside the left post.
The Wildcats return to action this Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. when they face the New Jersey Lady Stallions at Mercer County Community College. New Jersey also hosts the New Hampshire Lady Phantoms at MCCC on Saturday, June 19th at 7:30 p.m.
